Links

The heck is this page?

YES! Welcome back to the days before Google. Before search engines. When men were real men, where women were real women, and small furry creatures from Alpha Centauri were REAL small furry creatures from Alpha Centauri!

As you lament that Google’s search engine is borderline unusable and all you find is so clearly AI generated garbage that is only there to feed other AI engines. We are back to square Web 1. We are back to… Link pages. Back in the days of yore. The only way to find interesting webpages out there in the wild, was to navigate the, uh, web, of interconnected websites and databases and forums and BBS’s.

Link pages were just that. A curated list of links that a websites owner found to be particularly interesting enough to warrant promotion. And as google pivots to only serving advertisers and AI-engines. We, the users pivot to abandoning their increasingly useless search results.

So. This can be like an interesting experiment. This can be a short lived soonly forgotten bit of the webpage that noone visits. But lets get things going. These are links to things I tend to peruse. I will probably amend and edit this list with little to no documentation. So take it as a snapshot of interests.

Them shameless plugs!

Let’s just start off with a list of links to stuff I do on other sites.

And ways to fling money at me

Some Youtubers I subscribe to

Yes. I not only am an active youtuber of no note. I also consume the stuff as well. So here’s a scattered list of youtube accounts I have stumbled over that tickles my fancy at a regular interval:

The surreal

  • Quentin Smirhes – Ever wondered what it might feel like if the British 70s and 80s television never ended? Where the childrens programming where done by political activists with a political bent? Where sickly yellow, beige and brown were the main colors of color television? Well, look no further. This is that with a strong helping of particular feelings of a bad trip on some unidentified magic beverage. A pure delight.
  • Camille – In a vein very similar to mr Smirhes. Camille is a newer youtuber as I understand it, that gives a surreal bent to philosophical quandries and mathematical oddities. Here we’re stuck in a Lynchian web of deadpan humor and surreal imagery. More in the VHS era than Smirhes.
  • David Lynch – Occasionally bringing us news on the daily weather in california. This OG of OG surreal filmmakers tries to do things his way until his lungs finally get the better of him.
  • don hertzfeldt – The master of emotionally distressing and somehow hilarious stick figures that explores deep meanings of life with occasional out of left field humor about going to see a movie on a tuesday. Oh and there’s a webpage where he sells physical discs as well: bitterfilms.com

Music related

My own Bleps and Bloops in my videos tend to pale in comparison to the channels I follow.

  • Hainbach – A few soviet era radioactivity meters? An eastern german wire recorder? A broken synth flute? Just junk? No, says Hainbach, and proceeds to make etherial music with the rest of his collection of the strangest instruments and misused test equipment.
  • Look Mum No Computer – Ok, there tends to be quite a few computers involved. But still a fun source of deep dives as he and his colleagues find, restore and build new synths and sound-makers of all kinds.
